DESCRIPTION

Field of the invention.

The invention relates to a seat comprising a support frame with provided thereon a plurality of seat members of which some members function as seating elements and some function as back or arm resting elements.

State of the art.

A seat of this type is generally known. The shape of the known seat is rigid.

Summary of the invention.

It is an object of the invention to provide a seat of the type described in the opening paragraph of which the shape can be adjusted in a simple manner. For this purpose the seat according to the invention is characterised in that the seat members can function both as seating elements and as back or arm resting elements and for this purpose can be brought to a bottom position in which they function as seating elements and can be brought to a top position in which they function as back or arm resting elements while the seat members are carried in both bottom and top position by supports present on the support frame. Since members of the seat can function both as seating elements and as back or arm resting elements, the shape of the seating element and the back or arm resting element can be adjusted in a simple manner. An embodiment of the seat according to the invention is characterised in that the seat members are open at the bottom and the interior side walls of the seat members and the exterior side walls of the supports are provided with recesses and/or protruding elements so that the seat members in a first state can be provided on the supports while protruding elements are accommodated in the recesses so that the seat members are carried by the supports in the bottom position, and in a second state can be provided on the supports while protruding elements of the seat members are in contact with the supports, so that the seat members are carried by the supports in the top position. This is a simple construction with which the seat members can be brought to two different levels.

The interior side walls of the seat members and the exterior side walls of the supports are preferably cylindrical and are provided with protruding parts and recesses extending in axial direction, in the first state the protruding parts of the supports being accommodated in recesses provided in the interior side walls of the seat members in between protruding parts, and in the second state the protruding parts on the interior side walls of the seat members resting on the top side of the support.

Detailed description of the drawings.

Figs. 1, 2 and 3 show the seat with the seat members in various positions. The seat 1 has a support frame 3 with provided thereon a plurality of rectangular seat members 5. In Fig. 1 all seat members are in a bottom position in which they function as seating elements and in the Figs. 2 and 3 a plurality of seat members 5 are in the bottom position in which they function as seating elements and a plurality of seat members 7 are present in a top position in which they function as back or arm resting elements.

Both in the top position and in the bottom position the seat members 5, 7 are carried by supports present on the support frame 3. hi Figs. 4 and 5 the support frame 3 with supports 9 provided thereon is shown in side view and plan view respectively. The exterior side walls 11 of the supports 9 are provided with protruding elements 13.

In Figs. 6, 7 and 8 is shown one of the seat members 5 in bottom view and in a sectional view along line VII-VII and VIII- VIII in Fig. 6 respectively. The seat member 5 is open at the bottom 15. The interior side walls 17 of the seat members 5 are provided with protruding elements 19 with recesses 21 being present between them. The interior side walls 17 of the seat members and the exterior side walls 11 of the supports are cylindrical with the protruding elements 13, 19 and the recesses 21 extending in axial direction.

In a first state in which the protruding elements 13 of the supports are accommodated in the recesses 21, the seat members 5 can be provided on the supports 9. hi this first state the seat members 5 are carried by the supports 9 in the bottom position. Furthermore, in a second state in which the protruding elements 19 of the seat members are in contact with the top side 23 (see Fig. 4) of the supports 9, the seat members 5 can be provided on the supports. In this second state the seat members 5 are carried by the supports 9 in the top position. Albeit the invention described above has been described in the foregoing with reference to the drawing figures, it should be established that the invention is not by any manner or means restricted to the embodiments shown in these drawing figures. The scope of the invention is also extended to any embodiments deviating from the embodiments shown in the drawing figures within the spirit and scope of the claims.
