The invention relates to a furniture member having an assemble structure which may be disassembled to a compact volume.

Typical metal furniture, such as a sofa bed, bunk bed, etc., is made by welding a number of side tubes and shafts together to form a bedframe. However, the furniture includes a large volume which is adverse for packing and storing, the welding processes are not economical, and the furniture may not be assembled by the users.

GB 439,698 A discloses a tubular structure for use in the manufacture of a seat, mattress frame or the like. A plurality of pairs of slits are placed along the tubular structure and metal adjacent these slits are pressed inwardly to leave intermediate bridge parts constituting fastening loops for wires that are hooked via corresponding loops to the tubular structure.

EP 1 611 820 A1 teaches hook-ended steel wires that are fixed to a tubular frame structure. The hooks form straight end portions that extend into holes of the tubular frame structure. In order to secure the wires on the structure the holes must be provided on side walls of the structure that face away from each other, i.e. on outer side walls of the structure.

GB 1 000 908 A relates to the attachment of a spring platform to a frame. The frame is provided with a trough receiving a wire having a zig-zag shape with portions of the zig-zags extending out of the trough. The spring platform is hooked to these outer portions of the zig-zag wire. In order to prevent the zig-zag wire to be pulled out of the trough, the trough is formed as a slit of constant width which is inclined against the direction of the spring platform. The invention is to provide a furniture member which may be disassembled to a compact volume.

This technical problem is solved by furniture member acording to claim 1. Advantageous embodiments are laid down in futher claims.

  • Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a furniture member;
  • Fig. 2 is a plan view of a frame of the furniture member;
  • Fig. 3 is a partial exploded view of the furniture member;
  • Figs. 4, 5 are partial plan views of the furniture member; and
  • Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a bunkbed.

Referring to Figs. 1 to 3, a furniture member comprises one or more frames 10 for forming a sofa bed (Fig. 1), a bunk bed (Fig. 6) or the like, each frame 10 includes two or more lateral shafts 11, 12, two side shafts 13, and two middle shafts 14 coupled together with a number of connectors 15 and fasteners 16 for forming a planar or parallelogrammic structure. The shafts 11 to 14 each include a waterdrop-shaped trough 17 formed in the inner portion (Figs. 3-5) and having a narrowed opening 18. The troughs 17 extend in lengthwise direction of the shafts with at least one axial end of the trough allowing for insertion of a hook. The connectors 15 are engaged into the shafts 11 to 14.

A number of vertical wires 20 each include two rounded hooks 21 engaged into the troughs 17 of the lateral shafts 11, 12 (Fig. 4) and anchored to the lateral shafts 11, 12. The cross sectional width of the rounded hooks 21 is larger than the cross sectional width of the narrowed openings 18 of the waterdrop shape while the diameter of the wire is smaller than the cross sectional width of the narrowed openings 18.

One or more lateral wires 30 each include two ends 31, and a U-shaped coupler 33 coupled to each end 31 of the lateral wires 30, each coupler 33 include one or more (such as two) rounded hooks 34 engaged into the troughs 17 of the side or middle shafts 13, 14 (Fig. 5) and anchored to the side or middle shafts 13, 14. The lateral wires 30 may be directly coupled between the side shafts 13 with the couplers 33 without the middle shafts 14.

The shafts 11 to 14 and the wires 20, 30 may be disassembled and packaged in a compact volume which is excellent for transportation and storing purposes.
