摘要 PURPOSE: To determine the cross-sectional area of turbine blade by putting a solid object into a liquid of a specified volume, measuring variation of the volume of displaced liquid, and calculating the cross-section of solid object as a function of immersed length.
CONSTITUTION: A tank 10 is filled with a liquid 12 (e.g. water) up to level L, and a blade 14 is suspended from an immersing means. The immersing means is constructed by connecting the blade 14 with a weight 26 of corresponding weight through a wire 24 and entraining the wire 24 about pulleys 18, 20, 22. The pulley 20 is moved by a moving means 28 and the blade 14 is immersed into the liquid 12. Apparent variation of weight dW of the blade 14 due to buoyancy is determined by means of a balance 30 supporting the weight 26 and a signal corresponding to weight variation per unit time dW/dt is inputted to a computer means 32 along with dy/dt. Since the (dW/dt)/(dy/dt) is proportional to the cross-sectional area of blade 14, cross-sectional area of blade 14 can be determined for the increment of length along the length (y) of blade 14 immersed into the liquid 12.
