85 Soil deflecting and leveling reel US561799 1995-11-22 US5632343A 1997-05-27 Allan S. Gengler
A soil deflecting and leveling reel is formed by end plates having a plurality of blades extending helically therebetween. Intermediate plates are positioned in spaced relation to the end plates and reinforce the reel blades. The reel is rotatably mounted on a reel support frame which is pivotally connected to a tillage tool frame in close proximity behind a disc gang. The reel support frame is resiliently urged to engage the reel with the ground whereby ground contact rotates the reel as the tool frame is drawn across a field. The blades of the rotating reel engage soil ejected upwardly by the discs and deflect the soil back to the ground to minimize lateral shifting of the soil and consequent formation of ridges and furrows by the discs. Additionally, the blades of the rotating reel break up clods of the soil and churn the soil to improve mixing and incorporation of chemicals applied to the soil.
86 Earth clod pulverizer US399939 1982-07-19 US4450916A 1984-05-29 Thomas E. Francis
An earth clod pulverizing and earth smoothing implement (10) has rows of heavy, cast-iron, pointed teeth (14a-v) which are wedge-shaped in cross section with the cutting edges (42) of the wedges defining substantially vertical lines facing the forwardly direction. The implement further includes downwardly directed channel irons (16a-d) after each row of teeth, with each successive channel iron being mounted slightly lower than the one in front of it. The front leg (54) of each channel iron is shorter than the back leg (56). The implement (10) also includes downwardly directed side walls (18a and b), an upwardly flared front member (20) and a downwardly flared rear, smoothing, member (22). A channel iron (16e) having equal sides is mounted on the downwardly flared smoothing member (22). The teeth are spaced two feet apart in the rows, and the rows of teeth are spaced 14 inches apart.

An implement has one or more rows of tines fixed to frame beams and the lateral sides of the frame have adjustable ground wheels to control the working depths of the tines. A further soil working member is connected at the rear of the frame by parallelogram linkages and a driven eccentric on the further member imparts up and down vibratory movements to that member. Each linkage includes a bracket, the lower front portion of which is pivoted to a rear frame beam and rearwardly extending arms that are pivoted to vertical support arms that carry and move the further member. Above the pivot connection to the frame, the bracket has connection points for a tie arm that extends forward to a leading frame beam. A fixing mechanism interconnects the upper linkage arm with the front of the bracket at two spaced apart locations and springs in the mechanism bias the arm and further member to an equilibrium position. The angularity of the linkages can be changed with the bracket connections to the tie arms and/or mechanism. The further member includes transverse rods that define a convex ground-engaging surface.

According to this invention there is provided a soil cultivating implement comprising a plurality of downwardly extending tines arranged in a transverse row and rotatable ground engaging members that are located in front of and behind the row of tines with respect to the intended direction of operative travel of the implement, at least one of the rotatable ground engaging members being in the form of a roller which is mechanically driven during operation, said roller being disposed to the rear of said row of downwardly extending tines and comprising a number of longitudinal elements which extend in the direction of the axis of rotation of the said roller.
