US08110083B1 Arbitrary and simultaneous control of multiple objects in micro-fluidic systems
In a microfluidic device, respective motion of a plurality of objects along corresponding trajectories is achieved by determining a force field, such as an underlying fluid flow which, when applied to the plurality of object, moves each object along its corresponding trajectory. The force field is a linear superposition of a subset of all force fields supported by the physical characteristics of the microfluidic device. Once the fields have been ascertained, a plurality of actuation signals corresponding to the fields is applied to actuators installed on the microfluidic device to cause the force on each object. By implementing a feedback structure, corrections for positional errors may be made by computing a corrective force for each object and adjusting the actuation signals appropriately thereto.

US08109880B1 Noninvasive method to measure intracranial and effective cerebral outflow pressure
A method to measure effective cerebral outflow pressure or intracranial pressure is disclosed. The craniospinal venous system has multiple anastomoses between the jugular veins and vertebral venous plexus. Jugular veins collapse with cervical compression or head elevation, when extrinsic pressure exceeds venous pressure. The vertebral venous plexus is exposed to intracranial pressure and collapses when intracranial pressure exceeds venous pressure. Vertebral venous plexus is not compressed with head elevation or cervical compression, because enclosure in the spinal canal protects veins from the direct effects of atmospheric pressure and cervical compression. Using cervical compression and/or head elevation blood outflow is redistributed between jugular veins and vertebral venous plexus, while the degree of cervical compression or head elevation indicates effective cerebral outflow pressure or ICP.

US08109088B2 Master cylinder with U-shaped seal
Our problem relates to a master cylinder with a U-shaped seal. Our goal is to avoid defective bleeding of hydraulic braking systems. The defects arise out of the fact that the vacuum causes the lips of the seal (21) to stick together and to stick against the wall (41). To achieve this, reliefs (42) will be created on one wall (44) of one lip (28) facing the other lip (27) and on the edge face (50) of this same lip. These reliefs will prevent the lips from sticking tightly to one another and to the wall facing the edge face of the lips. This lack of sticking will prevent a vacuum from being created between the two lips and between the edge face of the lips and the wall (41). As a result, the seal will be able to return to a position in which bleeding can be performed effectively.
