US07955294B2 Intermittent dosing of nitric oxide gas
A method and corresponding device are described for combating microbes and infections by delivering intermittent high doses of nitric oxide to a mammal for a period of time and which cycles between high and low concentration of nitric oxide gas. The high concentration of nitric oxide is preferably delivered intermittently for brief periods of time that are interspersed with periods of time with either no nitric oxide delivery or lower concentrations of nitric oxide. The method is advantageous because at higher concentration, nitric oxide gas overwhelms the defense mechanism of pathogens that use the mammalian body to replenish their thiol defense system. A lower dose or concentration of nitric oxide gas delivered in between the bursts of high concentration nitric oxide maintains nitrosative stress pressure on the pathogens and also reduces the risk of toxicity of nitric oxide gas.

US07954789B2 Composite shaft and self-centering coupling
A composite hollow aspirator shaft is formed of fiberglass-reinforced phenolic resin that reduces the amount of vibration that is transferred to the motor rotating the shaft, and the motor's bearings. This extends motor and bearing life. When the aspirator tip is rotated in a liquid, fluidic forces are transferred to the shaft. Rather than transmitting those forces into the motor and its bearings, the composite aspirator shaft attenuates the forces to prevent most of them from reaching the motor and its bearings. The composite shaft material has a flexural modulus, or ratio, within the elastic limit of any applied stress, and is sufficiently low to allow the transfer of the flexural or oscillatory energy into heat within the shaft instead of conveying the energy in the form of vibration/oscillations along the axial length of the shaft. As an added advantage, the fiberglass resists abrasion better in wastewater than stainless steel used in the prior art.

US07954246B2 Rotating laser transmitter
The transmitter has a generally flat, circuit board stator, a rotor including a plurality of magnets mounted in a ring around a central opening, and a bearing, supporting the rotor for rotation about an axis that extends through the central opening, A pentaprism assembly including an optics holder is mounted on the rotor for rotation therewith. The pentaprism assembly receives a beam of laser light through the central opening and redirects at least a portion of the laser light outward in a direction normal to the rotation axis. A laser source, mounted on the stator, provides a beam of laser light through the central opening to the pentaprism assembly. The beam of laser light is aligned with the rotation axis. The laser source includes a collimating lens positioned within the rotor. A shield plate of magnetic material beneath the stator exerts a force on the rotor in conjunction with the magnets, taking play out of the bearing. The transmitter uses Hall effect sensors on the stator to control switching current to coils on the stator. The transmitter also uses the outputs of the Hall effect sensors and a timer output to control dithering of the laser beam.
