CONSTITUTION: An agricultural and horticultural germicide comprising an extract obtained by extracting a Japanese angelica root, Cnidium officinale Makino Aurantii Nobilis Pericarpium, powdered cork tree bark, powdered red pepper, powdered ginger and powdered scuttellaria with an organic solvent, e.g. ethanol or ether, as an active constituent. The germicide containing no synthetic chemicals is nontoxic and capable of driving off various pathogenic germs by the inproved control effect thereof, cultivating the same crop on the ground, and giving a fruit of good quality without fear of environmental pollution. The germicide is prepared by introducing a mixture of said Japanese angelica root etc. into water in an amount of 20W2,000 times that of the mixture, heating them at room temperature to 100°C for 0.5W20hr to give an extract, which is suitably concentrated or diluted.
