SOLUTION: A gatepost for holding a gate door rotatably is provided with an upper cover 1 at an upper end opening part of a cylindrical gatepost body 7 formed of aluminium or the like into square pole shape, and a hanging string 3 provided with a weight 2 at a lower end is suspended from the center of the lower face of the upper cover 1. Observation holes 4, 4 for observing the hanging string 3 are provided in the outer side faces of the gatepost body 7, and hanging string adjusting marks 5 for making the gatepost vertical at the time of being adjusted to the position of the hanging string 3 are provided at the outer side faces near the observation holes 4. The upper cover 1 with the weight 2 suspended is fitted to the upper end opening part of the gatepost, and the lower end part of the gatepost is inserted in a foundation hole 12. The gatepost body 7 is laterally adjusted so that the hanging string 3 is positioned on the hanging string adjusting marks 5 at the upper and lower parts of both observation holes 4.
