PURPOSE: A color keying device for a camera system is provided so that a color keying effect can be remarkably improved by deciding a color keying region of R-Y/B-Y chart in a fan shape from an origin. CONSTITUTION: A color keying device for a camera system consists of a first chrominance signal dividing unit(40), a color keying control unit(90) and an output unit(80). The color keying control unit(90) includes a chrominance signal combining unit(50) and a chrominance signal comparing unit(60). In addition, the chrominance signal combining unit(50) consists of a first selecting unit(56), a multiplying unit(52) and a second chrominance signal dividing unit(54). Here, the chrominance signal comparing unit(60) consists of first and second comparing units(92,94), second and third selecting units(70,72), and a first AND gate(84). The signal output unit(80) includes an output control unit(82) and a second AND gate(84). The output control unit(82) may be embodied as an exclusive OR gate. In order to perform the color keying effect, a color keying region of R-Y/B-Y chart is determined in a fan shape from an origin. Accordingly, the color keying effect is completely achieved by considering a chrominance signal of a low level near the origin.

47 APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CHROMA-KEY PROCESSING PCT/IL2009001047 2009-11-05 WO2010052716A2 2010-05-14 CARMI SHACHAR
Apparatus for interpolating or dispersing effects over a video frame, useful for chroma keying of an image comprising a foreground including a part to remove, such as a background or spill from the background. The apparatus handles pixels of the image one by one and includes an interpolation unit for applying an interpolation of attributes at a respective pixel and then applies a function based on the attributes. For example in chroma keying an opaqueness assigner may compare the local color with a color of the part to remove using the interpolation. Based on the comparison, keying is used to set at the respective pixel a level of opaqueness for the pixel.
48 MODIFIED CHROMA KEYED TECHNIQUE FOR SIMPLE SHAPE CODING FOR DIGITAL VIDEO PCT/US1999/018310 1999-08-23 WO00016562A1 2000-03-23
An efficient chroma key-based coding technique for digital video with an optimized switching threshold. An optimized binary keying threshold (T) is provided for switching between a first image region (such as a background region) (B) and second image region (such as a foreground object) (A) video picture. The threshold optimizes a PSNR of a quantization error Q of a key color K. A chroma key technique is also provided for representing the shape of a video object, where the shape information (alpha plane) of a foreground object is embedded in the keyed output, so there is no need to carry an explicit alpha plane, or use alpha plane coding. The chroma key shape representation technique provides a smooth transition at the boundary (500, 505) between objects without the need for special switching patterns, such as a general gray scale shape coding tool, or post-processing, e.g., using feathering filters.

54 Method and apparatus for performing chroma key, transparency and fog operations US794749 1997-02-03 US5990903A 1999-11-23 Walter E. Donovan
A method and apparatus for chroma keying filtered textures are provided. Chroma keying is performed which replaces the input texel color with a new color if the input texel color matches the chroma color. The chroma key circuitry keeps the input texel color and sets the alpha component to 1 if the input texel color does not match the chroma color. The chroma keyed texels are filtered using bilinear filtering. The color components of the filtered texels are fogged using a fog factor, a fog color, and the alpha component of the filtered texel. The fogged and filtered signal is blended with a background color to produce an output color for the texels.
55 Chroma processor including a look-up table or memory US954366 1992-09-30 US5313275A 1994-05-17 Richard T. Daly; Robert N. Stabler; Paul C. Post; Randy Wiggins
Video systems generally include chroma processors. The chroma processor may be configured as a chroma keyer, a key signal generator or a color collector. The chroma processor includes dual input look-up tables which are loaded by a central processor. The dual input look-up tables may be read and written to simultaneously. The look-up tables are addressed by chrominance signals, luminance signals or key signals input into the chroma processor. The look-up tables provide an exceptionally fast apparatus and exceptionally flexible method of keying one or more simultaneous regions of the display based on one or more unique chroma/luma combinations, new key signals, chrominance signals, and luminance signals. The chroma processor receives color modification parameters from a software user interface. Preferably, the chroma processor utilizes Y luminance signals, and U and V chrominance signals.
56 Keying system and composite image producing method EP96117366.3 1996-10-29 EP0772350A2 1997-05-07 Mitsui, Kenji; Sako, Yoshitomo

In a keying system, an image of an object is gained and a plurality of the background images each of which is obtained correspondingly to a view angle of a view point in a three-dimensional space to be imaged and a view position of the view point therein are stored on a memory device. The background image from the plurality of background images stored in the memory device is selectively read according to the view angle and the view position preliminarily defined in accordance with the image of the object. A chroma-keying composition is performed between the background image and the image of the object thereby producing a composite image.

57 Improvements in electronic image keying systems EP02252711.3 2002-04-17 EP1251692A2 2002-10-23 Hinson, Roy Neil; Searby, Anthony David; Throup, David

A chroma keying system 1 processes foreground image data representing a foreground subject in front of a matte, together with background data representing a background image, to produce composite image data representing the foreground subject and the background in place of the matte. A programmable look up table 8 is provided for receiving on a pixel-by-pixel basis the most significant bits (MSBs) of the foreground image data and outputting in response thereto range data representing limits of a keying range. An interpolator 9 is also provided for interpolating the range data depending on the least significant bits (LSBs) of the foreground image data and outputting keying data. A combiner 4 combines the foreground image data and the background image data on a pixel-by-pixel basis in response to the keying data to produce the composite image data. The system is operable in a calibration mode in which a generator 15 is connected to input the colour point data to an external keyer. The generator 15 generates colour point data representing all possible colours that could be represented by the most significant bits of the foreground image data, causing the external keyer to output keying data. The look up table 8 is also connected to the external keyer in this mode so that it can receive and store the keying data for subsequent use in the processing of foreground image data together with background image data to produce composite image data.

58 MULTIMODAL FOREGROUND BACKGROUND SEGMENTATION PCT/US2014/033914 2014-04-14 WO2014172226A1 2014-10-23 COLLET ROMEA, Alvaro; ZHANG, Bao; KIRK, Adam, G.

The subject disclosure is directed towards a framework that is configured to allow different background-foreground segmentation modalities to contribute towards segmentation. In one aspect, pixels are processed based upon RGB background separation, chroma keying, IR background separation, current depth versus background depth and current depth versus threshold background depth modalities. Each modality may contribute as a factor that the framework combines to determine a probability as to whether a pixel is foreground or background. The probabilities are fed into a global segmentation framework to obtain a segmented image.

PURPOSE: To obtain a characteristic where the edge part of a synthesized picture is linear by subtracting a cancel luminance signal from the chroma cancelled chroma key back. CONSTITUTION: A luminance signal Y of a matrix circuit 2 is inputted to a luminance key forming circuit 5 to obtain a Y component C of a chroma key material signal. This Y signal is synthesized with a chroma key signal B by a key signal synthesizing circuit 6 to obtain a synthesized key signal D. The level of this signal D is adjusted by a cancel luminance generating circuit 9 and a multiplying circuit 10. Substraction between this level adjusted signal D and a chroma cancel signal E is performed by a subtracting circuit 12 to obtain a luminance cancel output E where the luminance component of the chroma key back is completely removed. This output F and a keying signal due to the chroma key signal of a background signal are added by an adding circuit 14 to output the synthesized picture having the characteristic where synthesis of the edge part is linear.
