PURPOSE: A navigation searching method automatically registers a driver's points of interest. A driver using multiple vehicles and navigation devices can enjoy a real-time searching service on all his/her devices, as his/her personal information resides in an external server, not the navigation device equipped with a portable navigation device and a mobile device providing an application-type service. When the driver does not set a specific driving path or there is no previously-set driving path, a set of destination candidates are recommended considering discount services or deposit services provided by the driver's credit card or membership card companies. In this method, the navigation device can alert the driver when his/her vehicle needs to be repaired or filled at a gas station based on the vehicle's driving history and the current status on a real-time basis. E-commerce activities such as booking a place at the destination of a set path or paying for services at the place in advance are also possible. CONSTITUTION: A server stores personal information including a driver's purchase history. A vehicle control unit monitors a vehicle and collects driving-related information while transmitting the information to a navigation device. The navigation device communicates with the server and the vehicle control unit. A user interface displays data sent by the server having the personal information. According to one aspect, an approach is provided that assists in presenting the right information within the ecosystem. The approach involves associating information sources (ads, sponsored information, research requests, debate notices, seminars, education opportunities, peer generated information, etc) with a feedback mechanism. In one embodiment, the feedback mechanism includes a scoring feature, where individual participants within the ecosystem rate the relevancy and/or importance of the information provided. In one example, a user is notified that a potentially relevant information source is available. The notification is typically displayed unobtrusively within a browser or interface window that the user is navigating. In one implementation, the user must perform some affirmative action to reach information associated with the information opportunity. In one example, requiring an affirmative action serves as a shield from pop-ups, banner-ads, and other distracting form of advertising. It is also realized that allowing the user to select the information opportunity rather than display it immediately permits the user to decide explore the opportunity. In one example, permitting the user to decide to explore the opportunity increases the user's receptivity to the information opportunity. In one embodiment, information associated with the information opportunity is displayed in response to user selection. The information associated with the information opportunity describes the information opportunity available. The user is provided with the opportunity to evaluate the information opportunity without being required to visit it and/or review it in its entirety. The information associated with the information opportunity may also be displayed with user feedback.

An interactive system and method is disclosed for providing wallpaper or screen saver images for display on the background of a personal computer visual display. Wallpaper (or screen saver) images may be conveniently located by a consumer and downloaded from a wallpaper web site for use on the desktop of the consumer's personal computer. A clickable icon is incorporated into the wallpaper image or overlaid on the wallpaper image. When the icon is clicked on using a mouse, or otherwise activated by the consumer, the consumer's personal computer is automatically connected to a predetermined location on the Internet. Furthermore, sponsors may market their goods or services to consumers by paying a fee to have their clickable icons or advertisements incorporated into or overlaid on the wallpaper images. By clicking on the clickable icons or advertisements, the consumer is automatically connected to the sponsor's web site. In addition, a number of web sites may be affiliated with the wallpaper site, and consumers who subscribe to the wallpaper site may be able to conveniently purchase products or services from these affiliated sites by merely clicking on one or more pop-up buttons, or the like, after necessary consumer information has been given to the wallpaper web site.
195 ELECTRONIC CATALOG SYSTEM US12255618 2008-10-21 US20090113476A1 2009-04-30 Peter Samuel Vogel
A set-top-box receives catalogs through digital TV data broadcast or through the Internet. The catalogs are stored as files on the STB e.g. on hard drive or solid state memory. Usually, a particular user will receive only a subset of transmitted catalogs according to preferences set or deduced from user-specific information such as location. Users can search the catalogs by store, category keyword or other terms. Catalogs can appear in the “channels” menu or the “library” menu or any other menu. The ordering of catalogs displayed in a menu can be arranged according to likely interest to a viewer, or with “specials” first, or “newest” first or “closest” first etc. Viewers can click straight to a catalog or item when invited during watching a show or a commercial. They can be notified of specials, new catalogs or new items by means of an icon or other popup, or a notice appearing on a menu, or by SMS or email etc.
196 Direct-mail advertising package with acceptance form and return mailer envelope US905349 1986-09-10 US4778100A 1988-10-18 Thomas L. McGuire; Robert M. Steinberg
A direct-mail advertising package includes an acceptance form and a return mailer envelope. The acceptance form and envelope are disposed between a front and back cover, each of which may bear a promotional message. The respective peripheral edges of the package (or other peripherally-disposed portions of the package) are glued together, preferably intermittently, so that the integrity of the package may be maintained during mailing. The front and back covers are integrally joined to form a spine alongside an edge of the package, and recessed index tabs are formed on the package opposite to the spine, so that the package may be "popped" open against its adhesive retention. The acceptance form is perforated, and when torn away from the package, has outer dimensions which are less than the corresponding inside dimensions of the envelope; thus the acceptance form may be slipped easily into the envelope without folding the acceptance form. If desired, the acceptance form is made from a relatively-thin paper stock. With this arrangement, the acceptance form may be passed through an optical reader without jamming the equipment.Alternate embodiments are illustrated, including a double fold-out promotional sheet included in the mailing package.
197 Pop-up polyhedron greeting card US6004 1998-01-12 US5937553A 1999-08-17 Daniel L. Maran
A pop-up polyhedron greeting card or the like, is formed of two identical blanks which are adhesively secured together about the inwardly folded flanges of the trapezoidal faces of the device. Opposed inward flanges are tied together using an elastic band or cord, with the cord urging the two opposite flanges together to erect the card, to form a three dimensional polyhedral shape symmetrical about its equatorial plane. Various attachment embodiments are provided for the elastic band within the device, thus ensuring that the band will not become disengaged from its attachment points, regardless of the variation of tension on the band between the collapsed and erected states of the device. The device may be secured or suspended from another surface or object by using a magnet secured to one face of the device, for attachment to a magnetic object (refrigerator door, etc.), or by using a hook extending from one of the two central faces so the device may be suspended, e. g., Christmas tree ornament, etc. Applications of the polyhedral card device include greeting cards, calendars, advertisements, coin depositories or the like, and the display of other informational and graphical indicia.
