NEW MATERIAL:A benzothiazolone derivative expressed by formula I (R 1 is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl or lower alkoxy lower alkyl; R 2 is tert-butyl or 1-methylcyclopropyl; X is F or Cl). EXAMPLE: 3-[6-Chloro-3-( 2-propynyl )-2(3H)-benzothiazolon-5-yl]-5-(1,1-dimethyle thyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-(3H)-one. USE: An active ingredient herbicides, having excellent herbicidal efficacy against various weeds which becomes problems in soil and foliar treatment in upland field as well as treatment under water flooded condition and exhibiting improved selectivity for various weeds causing problems between various crops and weeds. PREPARATION: An oxadiazolone derivative expressed by formula II is reacted with a compound expressed by the formula R 1-Y (Y is Cl, Br, I, methylsulfonyloxy, etc.) in a solvent in the presence of a base to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
