CONSTITUTION: A compound of e.g. formulaI(e.g. benzaldehyde) is made to react with a compound of e,g. formula II to obtain a compound of e.g. formula III, which is reactd with KCN to obtain a compound of e.g. formula IV (e.g. mandelonitrile) in one step. The compound of formula IV is L-isomer or D-isomer according to the reaction condtiion. The reaction is carried out in a chemically symmetrical medium and in physically optical active photo-electromagnetic field or in a DC-electromagnetic field. The asymmetric synthesms takes place by the proper combination of the direction of the DC-photo-electromagnetic field and the direction of incidence of light to the reaction medium or the direction of the DC-current. An asymmetric synthesis can be carried out even under the conditions giving a racemic mixture by the conventional chemical reactions.
