CONSTITUTION: Hot water ejecting from a hot water well W-1 is separated into hot water and steam by a gas-liquid separator V-1, and the steam is introduced into a turbine R to produce electric power by a power generator E. The steam discharged from the turbine R is condensed in a condensor V-2 by cooling water from a cooling water column V-3. On the other hand, uncondensed gas in the condensor V-2 is introduced into a burner V-4. Hence, H
2 S in the gas is burnt into SO
2 , catalytically oxidized into SO
3 in a reactor V-6 through a heat exchanger V-5 and then introduced through a heat exchanger V-7 into an absorber column V-8. Conc. sulfuric acid which has absorbed SO
3 in the column V-8 is added to the hot water by a pump P-9, and the hot water having a pH lowered below 5 is returned underground through a returning well W-2.
