The carrier contains optical detectors 10a and 10b, a controller 15, a driving part 30 for a steering wheel 12, a radio equipment 17, a driving speedometer 27, etc. The drive of the carrier is controlled by a computer set on the ground. The controller 15 consists of a data processing part 21, a control amount arithmetic part 22, a drive steering command part 26, a steering pattern generating part 28, etc. Then the gain of a steering control system is changed based on the position deviation obtained at the front end or the centroid position of the carrier and in response to the change of the driving state and the driving speed of the carrier. Thus the steering control signal Ys is controlled. This secures the drive guidance of the carrier with high accuracy on the curved and straightcourses.
