161 Member for electrochemical biological control for preventing fouling JP33504896 1996-11-29 JPH10158863A 1998-06-16 NAKAYAMA TSURUO; OZAWA KINICHI; KODAMA HIDETOSHI; WAKE HITOSHI; MATSUNAGA TADASHI
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a member for the electrochemical control of organisms or for preventing fouling in which deterioration is prevented to the utmost and high in durability by applying any conductive coating of metallic nitride, metallic carbide, metallic boride and metallic silicide to the face to be contacted with water. SOLUTION: This member for the control of organisms or for preventing fouling is the one in which conductive coating 2 composed of any of metallic nitride, metallic carbide, metallic boride and metallic silicide is formed on a substrate 1. In the case a positive potential is applied to the conductive coating 2, the organisms in water is adsorbed to the surface of the conductive coating and are sterilized on the surface. Even if the potential is applied to the conductive coating 2, these metallic compounds are high in corrosion resistance, are free from dissolution and oxidation and are very stable, so that the control of organisms and the prevention of fouling can be executed over a long period, and the fouling of products such as foods, drinking water, pharmaceuticals or the like does not occur. Furthermore, since these metallic compounds are high in electric conductivity and small in the reduction of the potential in accordance with the resistance value of the conductive coating, fouling caused by organisms can be prevented in a wide area. Moreover, since its surface hardness is high, wear and peeling in a distributing pipe are not generated. COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO

An apparatus and system for using semiochemical compositions to control insect pests including the navel orangeworm. Includes a source of at least one semiochemical composition contained within a housing and a dispenser to initiate the controlled release of the composition over an area of treatment in response to one or more control signals. Compound release is achieved by adjusting start times and stop times, at intervals that coincide with periods of high activity for an insect pest or in response to trap capture data for the insect pest. A transmitter may be included report operation and status for monitoring purposes. Optional receiver allows for remote control. Release of the composition may also depend on signals from a light sensor, temperature sensor or other environmental factors such as wind, humidity and rain. May use more than one semiochemical composition to address different insect pests.

A high level of flavour can be provided in cigarette smoke at a low tar level while providing a more uniform delivery of flavour and tar as the cigarette is smoked, in comparison to a conventional cigarette. A tobacco blend is employed using higher-than-normal quantities of tobacco from the upper levels of a tobacco plant, to provide an initial high flavour-to-tar ratio. A flavour reset technique is employed to attenuate the flavour strength of the smoke to the smoker, so that such attenuated but acceptable flavour level is provided at a much lower tar level. In addition, latter puff manipulation of the tobacco smoke is effected to decrease the flavour level and tar produced in the latter puffs of smoking to provide a more uniform flavour delivery. Filter element structures and other specific elements to achieve these results are described.

176 Anti-itching composition containing capsaicinoid substance and use of capsaicinoid substance as anti-itching agent JP2002131917 2002-05-07 JP2003321361A 2003-11-11 YAZAWA SUSUMU; FUSHIKI TORU; WATANABE TATSUO; HASHIZUME SHUICHI; KATO MASATOSHI; YANAE KOJI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capsaicine analogue effective to acute/chronical itching of systemic and local nature without exerting hot taste or fiery feeling on a patient at the time of administration.
SOLUTION: The anti-itching composition contains a capsaicinoid substance expressed by formula (1) or formula (2). The capsaicinoid substance has strong anti-itching effect and mitigates severe fiery feeling at the time of administration because its pungency and invasivity are very weak, thereby provides an excellent anti-itching composition. In particular, as the capsaicinoid substance has less toxicity compared with capsaicine, it can be utilized as an additive for functional food or feed to afford anti-itching action or as an effective ingredient of a medicament for peroral/local administration.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO

Coating with clinging foam the upper interior walls of a generally horizontal pipe. A high-pressure pump delivers jetting water to a nozzle through a normally reeled hose. The nozzle has a body divided by a pressure-actuated valve into two chambers, the first one having a series of high-pressure jet exits. The valve is normally open and, when the high pressure is off, leads into a second chamber having a foam outlet. Two pump and metering devices and a compressor then deliver water, chemical and air mixed into a damp sloppy foam to the hose and thence to the nozzle. A skid supports the nozzle and has a series of skid rods regularly spaced around it. A gravity-operated device at the outlet is connected to the foam outlet from the nozzle's second chamber and causes expulsion of the foam toward the walls of said pipe lying along a predetermined upper sector only. The high-pressure pump thus sends water into the nozzle to cause closure of the valve and exit of the water through the jet exits, to jet the nozzle along the pipe to a desired position, while unreeling the hose. Then, the high-pressure pump is de-activated, with consequent opening of said nozzle's valve, and the pumps and metering devices and compressor are actuated to supply the nozzle with a foamed mixture of water, foaming chemical and air. The hose is reeled in at a predetermined rate so that clinging foam is impinged in a metered amount against the upper portion of the pipe walls.
