The clearinghouse communicates with the insurance company and forwards a statement which displays the historical behavior. Cellular telephone communication can also be used to schedule and remind appointments and promotional activities to subscribers/patients.

171 HYBRID CREDIT CARD TRANSACTION SYSTEM PCT/US2002/008521 2002-03-20 WO2002075501A2 2002-09-26 SPEAR, Kevin, W.

A hybrid credit card transaction system that processes transactions as either virtual standard transactions directed through a clearing house or as virtual closed loop transactions bypassing the clearinghouse, is disclosed. The system includes a logic enabled merchant that directs virtual closed loop transactions and directs them to an affiliated acquiring entity which acquires the virtual closed loop transactions and routes them directly to an affiliated card issuing entity so as to bypass the clearinghouse. The affiliated card issuing entity debits virtual standard transactions to a credit card account and virtual closed loop transactions to a private label account. The logic enabled merchant, associated acquiring entity and the associated card entity may be affiliated by participation in an Internet site that promotes transactions between small businesses and merchants selling wholesale goods. A reduction in processing fees accrued when bypassing the clearinghouse promotes issuance and use of the hybrid credit cards.

A computer-implemented method of presenting an electronic bill from a biller to a customer over a computer network includes steps of receiving biller-originated bill data and bill format data over the network into a bill presentment and payment database. The inputted bill data and bill format data are then stored in a first area of the bill presentment and payment database. The stored bill data and/or the bill format data is then validated and the validated bill data and/or the format data is swapped from the first area to a second area of the bill presentment and payment database, the second area being accessible to the customer. The bill, now incorporating the validated bill data and formatted according to the bill format data, may then be presented to the customer. A third, customer accessible area may be included in the database to archive the bills. The bill format data may include a plurality of bill templates, each of which may define a distinct appearance for the bill. A plurality of bill template selection rules may be applied to the validated bill data. Based on this evaluation, one of the plurality of bill templates may then be selected to format the bill presented to the customer.
