CONSTITUTION: A monomer mixture consisting of (A) acrylonitrile, (B) vinylidene chloride and (C) a vinyl monomer bearing sulfonic group such as allylsufonic acid is polymerized in an aqueous medium using a bisulfite sat as a reducing agent for a water-soluble redox initiator so that the equivalent ratio of the reducing agent to the oxidizing agent becomes 1W4 to give the objective polymer containing 40W75wt% of component A, 30W58wt% of component B and 0.5W1.5wt% of component C. In order to improve the polymerization utility of component B, the use of an anionic surfactant is recommended in an amount of 0.8W2wt% based on the total monomers.
