n - are substituted with one or more anion groups, nonion groups, cation groups or amphoteric groups. These substituents may be substituted with hydrophobic group or hydrogen. Cationic polymers are used for the coagulation of organic suspended matters and ionic organic substances and for the dehydration and filtration-promotion of sludge. Anionic polymers are used for the promotion of settling of positive-charged oxides of heavy metals and for the coagulation of proteins or other suspended matters. Nonionic polymers are used for the coagulation of suspended coarse particles. Amphoteric polymers are used for the coagulation of gelatin an in water-soluble protein-type coagulants. These polymers are used as a diluted aqueous solution.
