The untreated water inflow port 2 is provided to one side of the lower layer part, and the purified water outflow port 3 to one side of the upper layer part. Moreover, a sterilizer 10 such as an ozonizer which is operated when the discharge of water is stopped is furnished in the upper space part, and the layer of a purifying material 5a selected from activated carbon, zeolite, animal and vegetable proteins such as a degreased wool fiber body, etc. through which water can be passed from the upper and the lower surface is provided at the intermediate layer part. Consequently, propagation of bacteria in the water purifier when the operation of the purifier is stopped can be completely prevented, and drinkable water can be immediately taken out.
