CONSTITUTION: Filarial diseases are prevented by administering a processed garlic directly or in a mixture with a feed therefor to dogs. The processed garlic may be a garlic powder prepared by adding a garlic essential oil constituent to the garlic powdr to give an essential oil content therein of 0.5W1.5wt% or a garlic extract prepared by adding the essential oil constituent thereto. The filarial diseases of dogs are important infectious diseases by the protozoal infection of Aedes anopheles which is an intermediate host by mosquitoes, and cause symptoms, e.g. interruption of blood circulation, hepatocirrhosis, nephritis, ascites, cough or dropsy. The processed garlic contains diallyl dulfide and diallyl trisulfide as constituents and exhibits a powerful insecticidal effect on the imagoes of mosquitoes without side effects.
