PROCESS: For example, m-nitrophenol, K

3 and sulphoran are mixed. Then 3,4- dichloro-benztrifluoride is added to this mixture and made to react at 170W180°C for 6 hr to give 2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl-3-nitrophenyl ether, which is dissolved in acetic adhydride. To this solution, a mixed acid is added dropwise, maintaining the temp. between 5W10°C, to give a diphenyl ether compound of the formula.
